The deal comes ahead of the Saturday shutdown deadline, but it will also need the approval of the House, which isn't scheduled to return until Monday — and at least one Republican senator has pushed back.

The chamber approved a deal brokered by Senate Democrats and the White House to remove the DHS portion from the final spending package and extend current spending levels for the agency until Feb. 13.

The deal secures funding for most of the government while giving lawmakers two weeks to negotiate changes to immigration enforcement. It still needs to pass the House, which is in recess until Monday.
