King Leonidas I of Sparta, who reigned in the 5th century BCE, is best known for his heroic leadership at the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BCE. As a descendent of the Agiad dynasty, Leonidas was both a product of Spartan warrior culture and the rigorous "agoge" training.
